Today we have a *guest post* to share from "Goofy Mama" blogger, Allison Kuznia. Today she is sharing her family's sweet and simple all natural (and extremely affordable) recipe for homemade whitening toothpaste. We're enjoying it mint flavor right now with pure food grade peppermint essential oil, and I think I'll be trying orange or lemon flavor next!

My family has been making our own toothpaste for over a year now, and, let me tell you, it is wonderful! It saves us money, it's COMPLETELY natural, and I just went to the dentist and he told me that my teeth are extraordinary! (He also told me to use fluoridated toothpaste, but that part I chose to ignore.)
So, anyway, without further ado, here is the recipe:
Homemade Toothpaste
Makes 1/3 cup
2 Tbsp coconut oil
3 Tbsp baking soda
Peppermint extract, to taste
Stevia, to taste (we don't use it at all in the toothpaste anymore, but you can do whatever)
Mix together with a fork. Bada bing, bada boom, there's your toothpaste!

This is so neat! I can’t get my favourite Green Beaver toothpaste over here, so I will be trying to create an anise-flavoured one with this recipe. And, I’ve even got an empty jar that I’ve been wondering what to fill with for a while. :)
ReplyDeleteCool, Jessica! I hope it turns out tasty! Te texture is a little different at first, but a few days in you won't miss the manufactured toothpaste. Anise sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!!!! I'm so fed up trying to search at every store for fluoride-free toothpaste and then paying a hefty price for it!! And since we use these ingredients frequently with all the recipes on your page, I already had these on hand! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJust made a batch. Is it supposed to be very dry? Do you just wet your toothbrush and then dip it in? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, It should be the consistency of toothpaste you'd buy. Add a little more coconut oil if you'd like, or just wet under the faucet. yes, dip tooth brush in dish to load. Hope your family likes it!
ReplyDeleteOk I made this and I have to say that peppermint extract not the way to go. I couldn't add enough to cover up the soda taste. What did work and really gave that fresh feeling, plus the clean feel from the baking soda was. A bunch of drops of Doterra Peppermint Oil. My hubby loves it!! Now if I could only make one my teen will use. grrr.
